the Comfor Zone and the Risk to Take

There will be a time in your life, you start wondering about things. How does it like to be DIFFERENT, to be CONFIDENT and be YOU?. In relation to that, it may be even harder as when your comfort zone gets more well-defined.

I was lucky when it comes in a way I wasn't prepared so I couldn't react to it in a denial sense.

I was doubting about my major at my first year in College and I quitted as soon as I found this double bachelor degree which is called "EuroBA International Hospitality Management". And I jumped in it right away, actually not right away, I was doubting because it was A BIG CHALLENGE at that time, as my family got to pay more for me as I might keep moving from place to place and wouldn't be able to work part-time due to the student visa.

I was thrilled from the beginning until the end of this decision I made. It was also a big challenge as I have to constantly keep learning about others’ culture and adopt it. The main reason I choose this study is the opportunity to live in different countries. I started it in the Netherlands then Germany, then England, with a wonderful internship in Spain (where I explore myself and know how to define “entrepreneurship”). Now I’m back to the Netherlands and still continue to learn and explore.

Let's put it this way. If I didn’t make that decision as I saw the opportunity,

  • I wouldn't be who I am today. I might be still a shy girl who is from a completely different culture and background and still struggling to understand how things are in Europe.

  • I wouldn't be able to travel anywhere without speaking their languages. Living in Germany and Spain teaches me that you don't need to know the language to explore and learn, what you actually need is observing and trying to express yourself in a way people can read you.

Again, say YES to uncertain things and try not to think about the unfortunate coming things but be optimistic and prepared for it.

Comfort Zone- I call it a good thing to be when it comes to the crisis or tough time because it helps you get everything back under control. However, if someone wants to go after their dreams or want things differently in their life, it only happens outside the Comfort Zone. And Yes!  it is the one thing that we do need to learn to adjust ourselves.

Ask yourself these questions:

Am I happy with who I am?

If an opportunity just pops up, would I take it even I’m not ready?

If I’m not ready, then what is stopping me?

Would the idea of staying at the same position in life and repeating it everyday make me sick or frustrated?

I am inspired and motivated by seeing someone’s work, but the image of myself doing that is something out of my ability.

I don’t think I can do it. I don’t have the talent and the patience to learn it.

But I really want to be sucess, I want to change this boring life routine.

Between wanting to do it and the thoughts of not be able to do it, it’s killing me.

If you have one of those thoughts, you are not alone, we all were and are there at some points in our life.  So let's sum up! The idea of yourself is not able to do things holding you back, and then the comfort zone is what keeps you satisfied to stay there. But there is something in you know that you can do whatever you want. It's just not strong enough to drag you out.

Take it slow, you actually can come back to your comfort zone anytime, so why don't you give it a try. Start with this question:

"What interests you the most? What keep you happy and never get bored of doing it?”

There are more and more I would love to tell you, but just start with the message that START IT SMALL! You will end up seeing yourself in the world you never thought you would be surrounded one day.
